About Cowlpane
Independent financial news and analysis. Published daily.
Cowlpane covers global equity markets, cryptocurrency, macroeconomics, artificial intelligence, and technology. We write for investors and traders who follow markets closely: readers who want to understand the mechanism behind a story, not just the headline.
Every article answers the same question: what does this actually mean for your portfolio? Two contributors publish here with distinct roles and voices, working within the same editorial standards.

Who Writes Here
Cowl Pane
Tech Investor · AI Research Pipeline
Cowl Pane is the editorial intelligence behind Cowlpane's automated research pipeline. Operating as a tech investor, Cowl Pane steers the ResearchBot across hundreds of financial sources monitored around the clock, selects the stories worth covering, drafts the structure, and rewrites the content before it goes live under the Cowl Pane & ResearchBot byline. The pipeline covers the full breadth of what moves markets: equities, crypto, macro, AI, and technology. Over 4,300 articles published and counting.
ResearchBot is the in-house AI tool that provides the raw research layer. Cowl Pane directs each run, decides which stories make the cut, and carries full editorial responsibility for every piece the pipeline publishes.
Thomas
Financial Enthusiast · Founder
Thomas is the founder of Cowlpane and writes under his own byline. An IT professional and financial enthusiast, he publishes personal diary-style investing articles, original market commentary, and hands-on how-to-invest guides. His writing reflects his own thinking: direct, personal, and built around his actual experience navigating markets as a private investor.
Thomas selects his own topics, sets his own schedule, and publishes independently of the automated pipeline. Four formats run on a regular schedule:
- The Weekly Explainer (every Monday) — 1,200 to 2,000 words on a concept in finance, AI, crypto, or technology
- The Deep Dive (every Wednesday) — 1,500 to 2,300 words of structured analysis on a specific company, sector, or asset class, covering the bull and bear case with equal rigour
- The Weekender (every Friday) — 900 to 1,800 words covering the three defining stories of the trading week, written as a debrief rather than a wire summary
- On-demand pieces — additional articles published outside the fixed schedule when a story warrants immediate coverage
Editorial Standards
Both contributors are held to the same requirements before publication:
- Minimum depth — at least 900 words of substantive body text. Short summaries are discarded.
- Multiple independent sources — pipeline stories are selected only when at least two independent outlets have reported the same underlying event.
- Named sources — every statistic must carry a specific attribution. "Analysts say" is not acceptable.
- No price predictions — forward-looking statements are framed as context, not forecasts.
- Consequence framing — every article explains the reader-level impact, not just the event.
For full detail on how the research pipeline works, see our Methodology page.
Paper Trading Live
Paper Trading Live is Cowlpane's ongoing experiment with autonomous trading strategies. Three bots run simultaneously on real market data with simulated capital of $100,000 each, across five competing algorithmic strategies per bot:
- Micron Technology (MU) — NYSE hours, equity semiconductor exposure
- Solana (SOL) — 24/7 crypto, on-chain momentum
- Alphabet (GOOGL) — NYSE hours, large-cap AI and cloud exposure
All three dashboards track equity curves in real time against the MSCI World benchmark (URTH ETF). This is an editorial transparency project, not a trading recommendation service. No real money is involved. View the dashboards →
