2. Hosting

This website is hosted by Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). Cloudflare processes technical connection data (IP address, access time, page visited, browser type) for the purpose of operating the CDN and defending against attacks. Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and high-performance operation).

3. Google Fonts

Cowlpane loads fonts via the Google Fonts API (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Your IP address is transmitted to Google servers in this process. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Further information: Google Privacy Policy.

4. Cookies and Consent

A cookie banner appears on your first visit. The following categories are distinguished:

• Essential: Technically necessary entries (e.g. Cloudflare security cookies, consent status in localStorage). Always active, no consent required.
• Advertising (Google AdSense): Only with explicit consent. Sets Google cookies for personalised advertising. Consent signal is transmitted to Google via Consent Mode v2.

Your consent is stored locally in the browser (localStorage) and can be withdrawn at any time. The Google AdSense advertising code is only loaded after your explicit consent. Cowlpane implements Google Consent Mode v2 in accordance with the requirements of EU data protection authorities for EEA users.

5. Google AdSense

With your consent, we display advertising via Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). AdSense and its third-party partners may use cookies, web beacons, and IP addresses to serve ads tailored to your browsing behaviour and to measure ad performance. Data (IP address, device information, browsing behaviour) may be transmitted to Google servers in the USA. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).

6. Sponsored Partner Links

The homepage and section pages display sponsored partner cards for the following companies:

These cards are labelled "Sponsored" and carry the HTML attribute rel="noopener sponsored" in accordance with Google's guidelines. Cowlpane may receive compensation for clicks or sign-ups via these links. Their display does not influence editorial reporting. 7. No Own Web Analytics

Cowlpane does not use its own analytics tool (no Google Analytics, no Matomo, or similar). No server logs containing personal data are maintained.

8. Your Rights (GDPR)

You have the right to: access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to object (Art. 21 GDPR). Consents can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future.

Complaints may be directed to the competent supervisory authority: State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia, www.ldi.nrw.de.

9. Newsletter

When you subscribe to the Cowlpane newsletter, your e-mail address is transmitted to and stored by Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, 7 rue de Madrid, 75008 Paris, France). Brevo is a certified e-mail delivery service provider based in the EU. Data is transmitted in encrypted form (TLS). The legal basis for processing is your explicit consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, which you grant by submitting the sign-up form.

The purpose of processing is to send the daily Cowlpane market and economy briefing. Your e-mail address is used exclusively for this purpose and is not shared with third parties other than Brevo as a data processor.

Unsubscribe & Deletion: You may withdraw your consent at any time and unsubscribe from the newsletter — via the unsubscribe link in any e-mail or by contacting [email protected]. Your e-mail address will be deleted from the mailing list promptly upon unsubscription.
