2. Hosting
This website is hosted by Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). Cloudflare processes technical connection data (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) to deliver the site and protect it against attacks. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure and fast operation).
3. Fonts and images
Fonts are hosted on this server; no connection to Google Fonts is made. Some article photos are loaded from Unsplash (images.unsplash.com, Unsplash Inc., USA), which receives your IP address when the image is displayed. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
4. Cookies and consent
On your first visit you can choose which optional services to allow. Nothing optional is loaded before you decide. You can change your choice at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer.

5. Google Analytics
Only if you consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to understand how many people read which articles. IP addresses are shortened. Data may be transferred to the USA (EU-US Data Privacy Framework). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent), § 25(1) TDDDG.
6. Google AdSense
Only if you consent, ads are shown via Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited). Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers and IP addresses to deliver and measure ads. 7. Newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address is stored on our own server and processed with the open-source newsletter software listmonk. The server is operated for us by Hostinger International Ltd. (Cyprus) as our processor and is located in a data centre in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Newsletter emails are sent directly from this server; no newsletter service provider is involved.
We use double opt-in: you are only subscribed after clicking the link in the confirmation email. As proof of your consent we store the time of sign-up and confirmation and the IP address used to confirm. We send an email only on days when a new article is published. We only count how often links in the newsletter are clicked in total; we do not record which subscriber opens an email or clicks a link. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; keeping the proof of consent: Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR.
You can unsubscribe at any time with one click via the link in every email or by writing to [email protected]. Your address is then removed from the list.
8. Contact by email
If you write to an address at cowlpane.com (for example [email protected]), your email is received on our own server (Hostinger, data centre in Frankfurt am Main, Germany) and forwarded to Thomas via the messenger Telegram (Telegram FZ-LLC, Dubai, United Arab Emirates), so data may be processed outside the EU. We use your message and contact details only to answer your request and delete them when they are no longer needed. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries), or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if your request concerns a contract.
9. Partner links
Links to partners (Abacus.AI, root seven consulting) are normal links. Data is only transferred to them if you click and visit their website.
10. Your rights
You have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR), and you may withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. You can complain to the supervisory authority: Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, www.ldi.nrw.de.
